Bhrigu Lake Trek - High Altitude Grasslands
Bhrigu Lake Trek is an adventurous high altitude glacial trek located at an altitude of 14,000 ft. above sea level. Mostly the trails that lead to such beautiful locations are difficult to cross but even though it's a long trek, the trail is relatively easy. The beautiful Bhrigu lake is located in the upper Kullu Valley on the eastern side of the Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh.
The lake has historical as well as religious importance to the locals. Bhrigu Lake Trek is preferred by both beginners as well as experienced level trekkers. The majestic views of Seven Sister Peaks, Teo Tibba, Pir Panjal Ranges, thick forests of Deodar for a forest makes a spellbinding view for the trekkers. Apart from this, you will be able to spot wildlife like the Himalayan Monal and Snow Cocks. The Bhrigu Lake Trek opens up for trekkers from mid May until the month of October.
The trek starts from Manali and we will be driving 22 Km on the Manali - Rohtang Pass Road to Gulaba which will take approximately one and a half hours. We will be crossing the beautiful hill towns of Kolang, Palchan & Kothi. The view gets more beautiful as we inch closer to Gulaba.
After having lunch at Gulaba, we will take a short trek of about 3 Km. to Gulaba Meadows Camp which is a huge grassland and provides a perfect camping location.
Brief Overview of the Day
Today we are going to trek 6 Km. for about 4 hours on a steep trail. We will be walking under the dense forest cover of oak and birch trees. The sunlight filtered by the canopy of the forest makes a beautiful view. As we cross the forest cover we will enter a vast green meadow that is used as a grazing ground by the domesticated animals of the local people who live here.
We will enter the forest cover again and upon crossing the forest the trail will start to get steeper and narrower until we reach another grassland at Rola Kholi. Overnight stay will be at tents.
Brief Overview of the Day
We will wake up early in the morning and after having breakfast we will start walking to our next destination - Bhrigu Lake at 14,000 ft. We will be covering a distance of 10 Km in about 8 hours. Rola Kholi remains covered with snow until the month of June.
The final stretch to the Bhrigu Lake is a bit tricky as the path is filled with slippery boulders so walk carefully and follow the instructions of your trek leader. As we reach closer to the last boulder you will be able to view the magnificent lake between the two ridges.
From the lake you will also be able to view the Solang Valley and the majestic peaks of Pir Panjal & Dhauladhar range. After spending some time at the Bhrigu Lake, we will be trekking back to Rola Kholi
Brief Overview of the Day
The final day of the Bhrigu Lake Trek has finally arrived and we will be trekking back to Gulaba from Rola Kholi. The trek is an easy trail and will take approximately 3 hours and we will drive back to Manali.
